Notebooks are SUPPOSED to be smaller and thinner (therefore "notebook" expression!), while laptop are supposed to be sitting in you lap because they should be a little bit on the heavy side... Both words are nowadays used interchangeably...My opinion, notebooks are lighter than 2 kg, while laptops should be all the rest, but in the same time a group of portable computing devices comprised of notebooks, laptops and netbooks (7"-12")...

Nothing - they're just two different words for the same thing. However, very small laptops, with a screen size of 10 inches or less, are often known as netbooks rather than notebooks.

Notebooks and Netbooks are laptops but they are always smaller than them and sometimes with lower specifications .
