"Better" is a relative term. Mac OS X is certainly simpler for an inexperienced user. Windows is more customizable and has larger program support (meaning he can play more games). If your son is really into computers (and by that I mean messing around with computers, not just playing video games and surfing the Internet), Mac OS X exposes a ton of low-level stuff to play with.
