NTFS is New Technology File System, standard file system of Windows NT, including its later versions Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Vista. Windows 98 and older use Fat, Fat32. NTFS supports 16 EiB (1,152,921,504,606,846,976 bytes = 1 EIB), Fat32 supports 32Gb.... FAT doesnt support 64 but OS's...

Well your major differences are that NTFS can store a larger file (up to about 4.5 GB file) while FAT32 can only store a file up to about 2 GB. Another difference is the security. NTFS is more secure when it comes to someone trying to access your drive that does not have permissions. One of the previous posts stated that Windows XP Home does better on FAT32 and Windows XP Pro does better on NTFS. This is not necessarily true, but the reason it is believed is because Windows XP Home does not have all of the security features that Windows XP Pro has, therefore if Windows XP Pro is installed on FAT32, some of the security features are disabled. Hope that helps!

That depends on the operating system you wish to install. Win XP home works better with FAT32 while XP Pro works better with NTFS.

NTFS is the newer format used by windows nt os's. Go into your computer management panel then go to disk management. May be called something different in anything other than XP. Should be found in your control panel. Then look at your hard drive and it should say if it is NTFS or FAT32. And go NTFS, better security, speed and it is newer.
