    You're going to have a hard time trying to get an education (and a serious one, as you said) without that much knowledge of the language. But, if you love the culture and are willing to struggle to learn, then go for it. I would also recommend looking into other, less hyped countries. Sometimes the smaller, less expected kind of countries make excellent host countries and you'll fall in love with that culture, too. I had a friend live in Finland for a year, she chose it almost completely at random, and is now continuing to study the culture in a university here in Canada. She absolutely loves Finland and goes back to visit when she can.
