Has anyone ever lived in Austria before?

My wife lived in a small Austrian town up in the Alps (not far from Salzburg) where she taught English for a year. We've since visited twice and it has been wonderful both times. The friendships she forged with the very friendly Austrians are still there even 12 years on. The people are more than happy to invite you into their homes (thank goodness considering how cold it can be) for some nibbles and coffee. The scenery is beyond beautiful and the transport links are fantastic. Travel is generally more than reasonable. I wish you the best of times. Oh yes, and I'm pretty certain that almost every student will speak a level of English. But if you don't already, being immersed in the Osterreicher Deutschsprache will help you be speaking Austrian German in no time!

no sounds fun

Very serious, cold, and strict people. Extremely cold weather. beautiful towns. Great skiing. Not fun. Go for the Mediterranean countries where people are fun, warm and nice such as Spain, Italy and Greece. If you want to be able to speak a foreign language for future professional opportunities, Spanish seems to be the most widely spoken, besides English, of course. German is hardly spoken anywhere except for Austria and Germany.
