B12 is a microbe found in the soil. The microbe is isolated and cobalt (what the body actually uses from the B12) is derived from the B12 and compressed into a bill form with carrier solids that contain the cobalt. Many places will actally use all of the microbe from the bloodstream or animals but in many cases it is derived from the soil.

Well sorry, I don't know how it's made. I do know that most aren't vegetarian though unless marked that way on the label. I do have vegan friendly suggestions though. Just have a bowl of cereal in the morning and some Silk soy milk. That should take care of your vitamin B12 need for the day since just a serving of Silk soy milk has 50% of your daily vitamin B12 needs and most cereals have vitamin B12 aswell. Also, nutritional yeast has vitamin B12 in it if you use nutritional yeast a lot in cooking which most vegans do because they think it's a good cheese replacement or flavor additive. Edit: It comes from bacteria. Here's a source with a bunch of other sources and answers. Hope it helps. http://www.veganforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6856
