How to get fit for summer?

Vegetarians: What are you guys doing to get fit for the summer?

  • Soon it is summer time, and I (a vegetarian) need to get back in shape! Does anyone have any tips? What are you guys doing to get or stay in fit? Thanks!

  • Answer:

I've been running...I ran last summer but had to stop once it got too cold/icy. I started up again at the end of February and I have all these muscles in my legs and stomach (you could play my abs like a xylophone right now lol) that I haven't seen in months! It's good to see them again. So I can't recommend running enough. I just do 2-4 nights a week, different routes but I aim for hilly ones, and I run 1-3 miles then jog and speed walk for another 30 or so minutes.

Go to the gym, go to the beach, swimming, volleyball, etc... But I suggest getting some friends together and running every morning! Its a great way to motivate you to get up out of bed and move!

Thanks to a healthy veggie diet for many years, I am already fit. I walk, garden, and eat healthy year round. In addition to any type of exercise, just make sure your veggie diet is very well balanced, full of whole foods and not a bunch of processed garbage-your body holds on to chemicals as fat, since it does not know how to process them. Healthy, whole foods will give you all of the nutrition you need, and will pass through your body easily, keeping you fit and trim.

I've been running, swimming, biking, and weight lifting. When you are getting fit for the summer, it is important make sure you are thin before you start working on your muscles. Your muscles will not show unless you are thin. I don't know much about weight lifting other than hand weights, as I don't work on them as often as the other exercise techniques. For running/jogging/walking/biking, it is good to perform these exercises at least thirty minutes every day. The speed is up to you. Going fast and slow can create a strong metabolism for more efficient weight loss and muscle building. If you're working out outside, then sometimes you will have to play games with the weather. That's why it's good to have a treadmill or stay-in-place-bike at home or at a gym that you go to. As far as dieting is concerned, being a vegetarian makes everything easier. Eat more natural things (and less of it), and chew slower. Only once in a while should you break the eat-healthy-only rule. Try to eat less salty things, and drink at least 6-8 ounces of water daily. Make sure you eat 4-8 ounces of vegetables before you eat your meal. This helps because it is said that your stomach burns calories by digesting vegetables. This does not mean to go eating massive amounts of vegetables, as this will put on lots of weight (trust me, I've tried it, it doesn't work).

Well, I'm walking 3/4 of a mile to school and back, like I've done all year (And it was a tad tough on a couple days when it was 17 degrees!), and now I'm walking my Gf home, which makes me take a detour. But I've gotten back on my running regimen, and my brother installed a pull-up bar in the door between our bedrooms, which I've been using.
