  HD cameras are junk. If you want to shoot the stars, the best video going in the sub $3500 market is a a camcorder that uses MiniDV tape as as a storage media. I know My Canon ZR cameras all have a fireworks mode on them and on a clear night they can shoot the stars. It is hit and miss through the Canon line on whether you will get a Canon camcorder with a Mic jack. Make sure you get a mic jack on your camcorder, it will save you a world of regretting getting this feature. A standard camcorder does not do well at concerts. You would have to be sitting in the front row or right next to a bank of speakers to be able to hear the band. If your in the concert 30 rows back and 5 rows up, you get all the audio from the thousands of people between you and the stage before you get to the audio of the band.. Terrible audio, the best you could hope for is to be sitting right beside or be the closest to the audio mixer the band is using. If you could hook a cable into that "Phones "port on the mixer and into you Mic jack on the camera it would be the best you could hope for.
