Why wont windows Media Player won't play my videos?

  • I recorded them on my camcorder and when I download them onto the computer only the sound comes out and I can't actually watch the video. Why is this and how do I fix it? ...show more

  • Answer:

What file type are the videos? Right-click the video in the explorer(through My Computer or My Documents), look for the extension (.mov, .avi. .wmv, etc). Windows Media Player won't play some filetypes. EDIT: That I know of, WMP will only play .wmv, .mp4 and .avi. There may be more, but those are the only ones I know of. It may also say something like MPEG-2 or MPEG-4. WMP will not play MPEG-2 files, for some odd reason, but it will playback the sound.
