I agree when you say Windows Vista is a nightmare. I plan on getting Ubuntu and keeping Vista for certain programs. 1. Backup all the data. (I would suggest backing up from both partitions, just in case something goes really bad) 2. Check to see what partition you have Vista on. I'm not 100% sure, but I think if you click on my computer, It should show which partition the OS shows up as. If it doesn't show the name, then look at the size of the one with Windows on it. Optional: Completly wipe out this partition. I would suggest doing this because sometimes Windows XP has trouble overwriting Vista because it doesn't recognize Vista as an OS. This also helps preventanything from going wrong. 3.Insert the windows XP CD or USB and restart your computer. 4. As the initial loading screen comes up, you should see some text either along the bottom or the top right. It shows Setup= "Key Name" Press whatever key it is. 5.You will now enter the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) depending on the type of BIOS, your screen should look blue or gray (or both) Navigate to the Boot Tab using your arrow keys. 6. Enter the boot sequence. Place the CD/DVD Drive (or Removable Device, depending on what you used in step 3) and set that to First. Then you should have Hard Drive as second. 7.Save the settings and restart your PC. From there, the installation guide should be pretty easy. 8. When asked what partition you want to load the program onto, choose the Vista (or unallocated space, if you wiped it out) partition. 9. If asked for a file structure, choose NTFS (Quick) 10. The rest should be easy. When your done, get all updates, and load everything you want back on.

Just insert your windows XP disc and install on the visible partition. Ubuntu probably formatted the drive as ext3 so the windows XP installer probably won't recognize it. If more than one partition appears then check the size of each partition to find out which one Ubuntu is and which one Vista is.

Hi!

Did you install Ubuntu using Wubi ("Ubuntu Installer for Windows")? If so, your upgrade process is going to be much more complex as you won't technically even have any Ubuntu partitions.

I can almost gaurantee you will have to reinstall Ubuntu in order to install windows xp...unless you have multiple hard drives, which I highly doubt since you are asking a question on yahoo
