knowing both is cool, but choose one and get to know it very well first. There is so much overlap that when you get to know one well, then it will be easy for you to pick up the other when you're ready.

I personally like sql server 2005 and it's definitely more portable than oracle. it works with just about everything. i hope this answers your question.
