Is it possible for 2 different pay phones to have the same phone number?

  • Is it possible for 2 different pay phones to have the same phone number?

  • Answer:

Most pay phones these days don't accept calls. Too many drug dealers and such were using them for "business." They can act strange if you call them for this reason - different pay phone setups do different things when you call them. And no, two pay phones cannot have the same number unless they're in different area codes.

No, every phone has a unique number. If they shared a number, how could you call one of them?

SeekerOfKnowledge

nope.. if two shared the same phone number.. every time you called one of them.. both of them would ring.. and what would happen if say one was on the east coast and one was on the west coast and they both had the same number and someone on each coast answered that phone call.. what would happen.. there would be three people talking at once.. so no its only possible for each pay phone to have its own number.. think of it as cell phones.. if two cell phones had the same exact number (area code and everything) and someone called that number.. both phones would ring and one phone could be your phone and the other could be a complete stranger.. i think that makes it clear..
