Why is my AT&T phone not working?

Why isnt my new att house phone working? how do i fix it?

  Try placing another call using 1 XXX XXX XXXX, and see if it goes through(1 plus the area code and the 7 digit number). In some areas you have to do this even when calling across the street. If this does not work, you will need to attempt to dial 611(phone repair) from your phone, or another working phone(neighbors or public). Have all the necessary info when you call 611 to explain the issue, as they will attempt to test the land line.
