Gamers generally prefer plasma sets, for their 600 hz refresh rate. With LCD/LED, the faster refresh rates are helpful (120 hz and above), but response time is also important. Something less that 5 ms. is desirable, and 2 ms. is much better. A set with a 120 or 240 hz refresh rate but a slow response time could still show annoying fast motion blur.

It has been a long time since I have been in the market for a new tv but the $600 price tag might be an issue, occasionally you can find a good deal from a big box store or something where a nice LCD will be under $600 in the hopes you buy a bunch of crap with it. Typically you will only find a $600 TV in a nice size from a off brand in which case you are getting the cheapest parts possible which can cause that blur and input lag. My personal recommendation to you is this, 60hz is all you need for general tv and movie watching, only bother getting the 120 if you play video games otherwise save the $ you wont use the feature. you want the shortest response time possible if you want the littlest lag. Also ask the guy at the store about what size is best for you, they should know this I just cannot remember the formula but when I used to work at a store selling LCD's they gave us a formula for the screen size, its based off of how far back you sit from the TV, you DO NOT want to go to big! you can only see so far to the side so if you get a tv that is too big it will look blurry. In general for most rooms a 40 inch should be pretty good, I would not go larger unless you are trying to make a in home movie theater and plan to sit very far back from the screen. But TV's are one thing you do want to pay for the brand you loose a lot of quality otherwise.
