Why is my real name is showing up when i instant message someone?

you need to edit your messenger on how you would like to be seen on line check your email and make the necessary changes there as well

In the Messenger menu, click My Contact Details. Whatever you type in the Nickname box shows up on YOUR messenger. What shows up on other people's messenger when you IM them depends on what they have in Contact Details for you.
