Why is my transmission overheating?

2006 lincoln town car Transmission Is Overheating?

  • what will make my 2006 lincoln town car Transmission Is Overheating

  • Answer:

#1 How do you know it is the tranny heating up ? Check your transmission fluid after car has been running for 10 minutes - no need to be driving it.. idling is fine. Remove tranny dipstick, be sure the engine is turned off. If your tranny is really over heating, you will find the dipstick is to hot to hold when you run your fingers down. If it is that hot, do yourself a favor ... go to a transmission shop.

Your radiator keeps both the motor and transmission cool. Make sure you have sufficient radiator fluid. Conduct an inspection of the radiator. If there is a lot of debris, spray it down with a garden hose. Is you engine, heating up also? It may also be the thermostat. There are also transmission oil cooler that you can install. Here is an example of one. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Torqflo-Transmission-oil-cooler/_/N-255s?itemIdentifier=238922 Here is an example of how to install a transmission oil cooler. I tried to look for one for a Lincoln, no available.
