Pre-2011 V6 Mustangs need some sort of forced induction to reach 300hp+. Granted, you could probably do it without forced induction, you'd end up spending a lot more money. I haven't seen the exact numbers, but I expect an Eaton M112 supercharger (for 99-04 engines or 94-98 engines with a split port swap) could get you near 300hp at the crank (Google "Mysteed supercharger kit" for the whole kit). However turbos offer better driveability on our cars, although they need a little extra work to install them. Don't forget that you're going to need a custom tune once the turbo/supercharger is installed.

The new 2011 Mustang V6 is rated already at 305hp. If you are talking about a previous generation V6, they were pretty weak. 300hp is not likely without supercharging, etc.
