    if you are over 19 years old and have no qualiications, you can enroll as a mature student, you can get into uni through an access to nursing course at college which is more or less your first years work at uni but at college! this shows the uni that you are commited and have what it takes to study at the uni. this is important as so many people drop out after only a few months. you can train as a nurse for years and then train an extra 18 months to become a midwife, this way you would be dual qualified as both a nurse and a midwife

Some trusts run Midwifery Cadet schemes which provide experience of working in the midwifery environment while also earning an NVQ3. You can then apply for the pre-registration midwifery course. Support workers already working for the NHS can be sponsored by their employer to take the part-time pre-registration midwifery course
