It depends on what kind of doctor you want to be, but im guessing you want to be a medical doctor. I hope you have good grades and have medical experiance like volunteering in a hospital, its good specially for med schhol. It usually take 11 or more years to finaally become a doctor. 4 years undergrad, 4 years medical school, residancy Basically 3main steps to take to become doctor after highschool Pre-Med Program- Medical School- Residency/Intern- then your a Doctor. ______________________________________... Steps (detailed): 1. FIRST Look at what Medical school your trying to go before picking what college your going to for pre-med, because each medical school has its own requirements. Check those requriements and pick a pre-Med Program that has those requirements. 2. Pre- Medical Program Apply to a college with med program, get accepted. Then, You need to have a bachelor's degree (4 years) to get into Medical school. You should try to get into a good pre-med program. Pre-Med is NOT a Major, (its a program) just a series of courses or prerequisites mostly in bio, chem, physics and math which you'll need to get into medical school and for your MCAT test. Like a 4 year schedule or plan to get into med school. SO....you can have ANY major you want as long as you study Pre-med. It does not have to be a science major. So you could be a pre-med student with a major in biology or English literature. Not all college have a pre-med program. Try to get into a good pre-med program, check the website of colleges and universities to see what kind of programs they have. But, I heard that Harvard or John Hopkins has a good pre-med program. BUT, FIRST Look at what Medical school your trying to go, because each medical school has its own requirements. Check those requirements and pick a pre-Med Program that has those requirements. ***Pre-Med**** The required classes you need to take in a pre-med program is different for each medical school. But, mostly heres an example of the coures you take if you study pre-med. (List taken from website I provided in my sources below) 1 yr. of inorganic (general) chemistry with associated labs • 1 yr. of organic chemistry with associated lab (one lab at Hopkins) • 1 yr. of biological science coursework with associated labs • 1 yr. of general physics with associated labs • 1 yr. of English (composition and/or literature) • 1 yr. of mathematics (calculus and/or statistics) • 1 sem. of biochemistry (recommended or required by approximately 30 schools) • Social sciences and humanities The reason you take pre-med is to fill in requirements for medical school and to prepare you for your MCAT Test. 3. MCAT Test You need to register online on the offical website to take the MCAT test. Registration are taken between january and september. You take it in your junior year mostly in october or spring/ or in senior year. Junior year better. so you can apply to medical school and you can go to medical school immediatly after the 4 years of college. The "Medical College Admission Test" a national test you need to take in order to get into Medical School. You need to Study real hard for it. Its like your admission ticket to Medical school. You usually take the test in your junior year of college in the spring . But its a bad idea to taKe in senior year The MCAT consists of four sections. The Verbal Reasoning, Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences sections are multiple choice. The Writing Sample section requires two separate writing responses. (copy and pasted from website i provided in sources) The test in each section it is score from a 1-15. You usually get your score after a month. The cost of registering for the test is a fee of 225 dollars. Before taking the the actual test, take some practice teast online or order practice test from officals websites. fact: test taken since 1920's. 4. Apply to Medical School After getting your results apply to medical. If you passed your MCAT with good results. You should apply to couple of Medical schools, each application costs about $35-$100 dollars. There are alot of steps involved in applying to medical schoool. This website should hepl you, it more detailed and contains more info: http://www.medicalschoolapplicationessays.com/the-basic-steps-involved-in-medical-school-application/ After you send your applications, youll probably get a schedule for an interview. You should prepare and ask friends who have gone through the process for some advice. After, your interview you should wait a couple of days for a phone caal, email or letter. Your either appcepted or rejected. Remember getting into a good medical school is very competitive. 5. Medical school..... I ll need give next step later
