First, I'd advise you to think hard on your decision to drop out. Its an important one you could ever make... I dropped out, and I got a GED. I didn't like High School all too much, it was kind of... boring I guess? But, what I had dropped out for, was a pretty stupid reason. Which is kind of why I regret it. But if I had the opportunity, I'd love to give high school another try. The thing is, when I dropped out, I thought I'd be able to take the GED test in 2 or 3 days after dropping out. But I was very VERY wrong!!!! I had to wait a good, 3-4 months before I could take the GED test Aug17th(this year). I didn't get my scores until September 15th. And I got my diploma 5 days ago. When you add it all up, its about 6-7 months of work it took for me to get my GED. It was a very long process, but I managed to pull through. So be aware, if you have not been out of high school for more than a year, then you will have to wait a full year before you can actually take the test, OR, wait for your High School class to graduate. --------------------------------------... A GED, or "Good Enough Diploma" is an equivalence of a High School Diploma. They are technically the same, but a High School Graduate still has a small upper-hand over someone with a GED diploma. The reason for this is, it makes employers feel that a GED holder could not go through with something like high school education in the long run. But that term has changed a lot over the years. GED holders can actually get most jobs and even more as opposed to a high school graduate. In fact, there are proven studies that show, GED holders do better in the education than most High School Graduates. As for college, with a GED you can enter most Junior Colleges (Community College). High School Graduates usually have an advantage to enter 4 year schools as opposed to a GED holder. But that doesn't mean a GED holder can't go any further. Most GED holders enter Community Colleges, and then transfer after they receive their associates. Overall, the GED isn't bad. Its just the same as a High School diploma. I don't recommend dropping out at all, and you should really reconsider it. But I am not in control of your decisions. But just make sure what you do, is the right thing.

The Social Sciences Research Network released last summer a paper concluding that students with GEDs did only a little better economically than high school dropouts. They concluded that students with GEDs often lacked "soft skills." These include attending regularly, being punctual, working well with others, following the rules and behaving appropriately. A GED shows an employer that you can do high school level academic work. A diploma shows that you have soft skills in addition to the ability to do academic work.

A High School diploma is much better than a GED, do not drop out and fall back on getting a GED.
