Answer:
Doesn't the 383 use a 400 crank with cut down journals? Since the 383 is a two piece rear main motor, and the LT1 is undoubtedly a one piece, I'm not sure it's even possible, as the crank for it may not exist. The LT1 is a bastard motor anyways really, I'd seriously consider going back a few years for a one piece rear main 350 from '87+, with some fastburn style heads, OR, get more up to date with the LS1. Chevyraceman will know all, hopefully he chimes in for you. :)

Hey monkey, thanks for the kind words. Your showing your age alittle it with the 400 crank comment. Just ragging on you alittle bud. Yes the old school 70's and 80's way of building a 383 was to turn down a 400 crank to fit the 2.45" main jurnals of a 350. In the past 15 years though the aftermarket has came to bat. They make a 3.75" stroke crank with 2.45" mains. They have 1 and 2 pc. rear main seals. I stand firm against stroker kits. I have NEVER found a pre made "kit" that was 100" right for each build. I like to make my own kit, buy this crank, those rods, them pistons, these bearings, etc etc. I am an engine builder ad not just a back yarder, so I'm much more picky about the parts I use. Theres 3, 3.75" stroke cranks for the LT1 shown on summit racing's site http://www.summitracing.com/search/Part-Type/Crankshafts/Make/CHEVROLET/Engine-Type/V8/Engine-Size/5-7L-350/Engine-Family/Chevy-small-block-Gen-II-LT-based-engines/Engine-Stroke-in/3-750-in/?Ns=Rank%7cAsc That is what just comes up when you type in LT1 stroker crank. Keep in mind the LT1 is very close to a common gen I small block. A crank for a 1986 up 1 pc. rear main seal engine will work in an LT1 Theses http://www.summitracing.com/search/Part-Type/Crankshafts/Make/CHEVROLET/Engine-Type/V8/Engine-Size/5-7L-350/Engine-Stroke-in/3-750-in/Rear-Main-Seal-Style/1-piece/Stroker-Crankshaft/Yes/?Ns=Rank%7cAsc&RC=100 When dealing with a stroker or any crank change, keep in mind you must use the right crank rods, and pistons. You want 383 stroker, so you need a 3.75" stroke. They offer these cranks fo use with a 5.7" or a 6" rod. Pick what you need, then buy or use that same lenght rod. Then when you get to the pistons, be sure to match the rod lenght and the stroke. The compression height (center of wrist pin hole to top of piston) will be placed in a diff place for each stroke and rod lenght. So you use a 3.75" stroke and a 5.7" rod, you need to make sure crank say for use with 5.7" rods, then make sure you buy pistons for use with 3.75" strok and 5.7" rod lenght Jegs.com will also have the crankshaft
