    Focus on their weaknesses. Get them to speak to a mic and record what they say, then give them some specific feedback. The more they do it, the more natural it will feel when they sit the exam. Same for the writing part: get them to write a lot. When I've tutored, I've often find that the person's English level isn't too bad, but their anxiety keeps them from producing a decent essay or conveying an idea with enough ease or clarity.
