I am a soldier in Afghanistan im looking to get out of the army and become a firefighter?

There are many Community Colleges through out the country that have Fire Science programs and there are Fire Academy's offering training as well. If you know where you're going when you get out of the military you can do a google search of the Colleges and Academy's in that area. Getting into the Fire Service has become very competitive now days since you'll be a veteran you will have some advantage over non veterans. If you go the Community College route you'll get an Associates in Fire Science, you should also strongly consider getting your Emergency Medical Technician certification at a minimum and a Paramedic Certification would be even better. If you go the Fire Academy route you'll receive a certification usually as a Firefighter I and have the option for further training. Good luck to you and thank you for your service to this country.

1. Most paid departments have hiring holds. The budgets of many towns are bad. So new classes are on hold. 2. Volunteer units are your best option.

Once you get your discharge from the Army, return to your home town and join the VFD provided they have one. If not then use the Army education program and attend some schools on the issue, get a degree in it. Then upon completion you would be more hire able at a paid department.

I was helping a friend study for it, he struggled with the math?? (water pressures, volumes, etc)
