  • Here are the details of Chepauk Palace : (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chepauk_Palace  ) Chepauk Palace was the official residence of the Nawab of Arcot from 1768 to 1855. It is situated in the neighbourhood of Chepauk in Chennai, India . The Chepauk Palace comprises two blocks—the northern block is known as  Khalsa Mahal while the southern block is known as Humayun Mahal.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chepauk_Palace#cite_note-srinivasacharip181-1 The palace is built over an area of 117 acres and is surrounded by a wallia and is constructed in the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture.

  • Answer:

With some Googling, I found that it is not called Khalsa Mahal but rather called "Kalsa Mahal" (Kalsa probably comes from the word Kalas meaning dome) The main palace consisted of two blocks, the  southern called the Kalsa Mahal, so called from its small domes  and the northern, called the Humayun Mahal and the Diwan  Khana the last of which contained the Durbar Hall.
