What's the reason why Russia is attacking Georgia???

This question goes back further than more recent events. Within Russia and spread out throughout former Soviet Bloc countries you have various ethnic groups that identify themselves one way or another much like in the Balkans. Also the growing tension that Russia feels as more and more of these countries become more pro-western and gain acceptance of the US and the rest of the European community. This is also as they align themselves with the rest of Europe versus Russia. Russia thus feels pressure due to countries around them pretty much not allowing Russia to have control over them. This is one of the major pressures. Within Ossetia you have groups that find themselves more ethnically tied along with a tie concerning choice of government. In this case when Georgia decided to move into those regions to take back their "land" Russia was already looking for an excuse to flex some power in the region. Also note prior to this action, these regions of Georgia had been governing themselves versus following the government of Georgia for sometime. Also note that in the Soviet Union's history Georgia held an important position being connected with the rest of Europe and there are many famous Georgians in Soviet history.

There is no room for a successful and uncorrupted democracy in Putin's mind.

Russia kicked out the Georgian army that had attacked Russian civilians in South Ossetia. North Ossetia is in Russia and the people are all of the same ethnic group. More than half of the south Ossetians are Russian citizens. many have fled across the border to stay with relatives. The Georgians had just finished some war game training led by US and Israeli commandos who were seen along with the attacking Georgian Army which is led by an Israeli.( Dual citizenship). Russia saved a lot of lives in this tiny area.
