College students, how do you organize your notes? Binder or Notebooks?

I am trying to come up with a more effective way of organizing my notes, while reducing the amount of stuff I put in my backpack during the semester. How do you organize your notes ...show more

Answer:
I use like a two or three inch binder for each semester. I divide the binder up into four sections one section for each class, the I have a three ring notebook that I use to take notes in class with and when I take notes for reading. within each section, the first part is the part for my class notes for that class, then class handouts, then at the end I put my book notes. When I take notes I label the date and wether they are class or book notes. So you do that for each section that represents each class. So for example if I am done with class I put the class notes in date order so I just go to the day before and then add the class notes, then the same for class handouts, then if I read a chapter that night or whatever i put the book notes at the end of the section, This way when it is time to go back for a project for reference or to study for a class I can go back to my notes very easily for each class. Getting through projects is a breeze---good luck

I used to carry all of my notes in a 3 ring binder, using inserts to separate my notes for each class. However, those are not very good when you have handouts from the teacher because you have to utilize a 3-hole punch. The loose leaf paper is handy for when you do have in-class assignments. I have used a computer for my notes as well but not all classes at my school have desks big enough to accomodate a laptop and the books. Plus, laptops are heavy and only distract you from what is going on in class. The last two semesters I have gone to single-subject notebooks for each class. They have pockets in the front and back for me to place class handouts and I am able to keep everything together and organized for one class. The pages can be cleanly ripped out for in-class assignments. For me, this is the best option and helps me a lot when it comes to studying for tests and finals.
I'd use a binder for each class. When you review your notes prior to an exam, you can mark up the pages, which adds yet another dimension to your preparation.

It would all depend on how many notes you take. I used one subject notebooks for all my classes. (Mostly because from July to end of August you can get them at Walmart for 10cents a piece)

A binder with separators in between each chapter, subject, etc.

I often just stuff all the extra papers into the book or notebook for each class. Its a horrible method, but I'm too lazy to do otherwise. Try at your own risk.

I use a PC and carry a folder for each class for handouts. I like using the laptop because it eliminates all of the paperwork (and possibly losing papers). If I miss a class, someone else can email the notes to me and I can insert them right in the spot where the lecture notes would have been. Also is nice because if the professor is BORINGGG, I can surf the net...hee hee. Good luck!

I just used notebooks! It was easier for me to keep up with notes and any sheets that my professors passed out.

I like to use binders that have lose paper and folders. each binder for each class, add a laptop or pocket pc and im all set

I agree. A binder with seperators is what I use because you don't have a bunch of loose things falling out and you don't have to look through each folder to know which one you are holding. You can just pull out the binder, flip to the right tab, and be on your way.
