  • Answer:

3.2 is iffy. You should apply but also apply to Cal Poly Pomona. As for the D, a single D in high school disqualifies you from the UC system as an undergrad. It will not bode well for grad school either. That said, my daughter bombed her freshman year in university but still managed to pull her way back to a 3.4 by the time she got her bachelors. She still got into grad school and gets her PhD in civil engineering this year. Make sure you apply for a graduate assistanceship when you apply for grad school. My daughter did and between her PhD and her masters we only has to pay for 2 semesters tuition.

3.2 really is iffy because that is only .2 above a B average, which is the minimum GPA that UCLA and Berkeley want. I bet other applicants apply with like 3.5 or better and the experience, and the GRE score. When you apply, don't county solely on top universities only. Apply to other great schools too, but someting that may be a little less competitive than UCLA and Berkeley (perhaps SJSU? Cal Poly SLO?)
