Patna, Bihar, India: Is super 30 IIT success rate fake and hyped up?
-
Reality of Anand Kumar and Super-30: The so called mathematician from Bihar:: (excerpts from https://www.facebook.com/theproudbihari) Enough is Enough We canât tolerate it anymore. A true Bihari can never boast about something fake. We have many things to feel proud on!! Whatever we have written below is a result of detailed study of Super 30, its functioning, method of selection of students, talking to students of Super 30, Ramanujan School of Mathematics and parents. â¢Anand Kumar claims to select 30 students for coaching on the basis of their economic status but the reality is that he selects the students from a selection test based on its results. â¢He claims to select 30 students for coaching but the but the reality is that he selects the students from a selection test . â¢Around 10000 students appear for this test from which he selects 200 students.(the quality of top 200 from 10000 can be self understood) â¢He claims to teach and train these 200 (he always claims 30) but the reality is that he don't teach them but just conduct tests! â¢On the fake fame gained by Super-30 he runs a coaching named Ramanujan School of Mathematics where he teaches around 9000-10000 students whose business runs in several crores!(single batch is of 1000-1200 students) â¢His brother is related to media houses who runs his paid media campaign â¢He actually run those 200 students (claimed 30) in terms of selection/rank, who would get better ranks if really properly trained. â¢Hardly a few from those 9000-10000 gets selected, and those selected are claimed to be from super 30.(depending upon the figure he gets after 'management' for best ranks) â¢He never reveals names of his 30 students during whole year(before results) â¢This year, under huge pressure he released 30 names after the exam. (One can easily know the marks and expected rank he/she will get, after the exam as the answer key and solution are available within hours of exam) â¢He manages students just like horse trading in politics, this has happened several times..he use to pay students to âbuy their ranksâ and come before media as his student from super-30(those who are not actually his students either from those 200 or those 10000) â¢You can hear full maa-behen for Anand Kumar from his students just a few weeks or months after they join once they come to know that they have been cheated. â¢It's a sad fact that celebrities like Amir Khan and institutes like IIMs fall prey to his marketing. Or mabye who cares! I donât say that no one from his super 30 gets selected but actually he ruins their ranks(whoever is selected). Itâs a education mafia world run though paid media and fake publicity!

Ok..I have something to share on this. I have no contact with 'Super-30' as such but this is what I know from my friends there. Background Anand sir runs a coaching with around 200-300 students or may be more. He then conducts a test and top 30 students who also happens to have a weak financial background are selected and put in a different section. They are given 100% fees rebate, accommodation and full guidance on how to crack JEE. This, now, is a very humble and wonderful approach which have been very helpful in changing the lives of many under-privileged students. So, undoubtedly, he deserves appreciation. BUT..there is more..!!! 5-6 years back super-30 declared 100% result which was a great achievement. This "100%" result continued for 3 consecutive years and then came the year when I was supposed to sit for the JEE. Me and super-30 I was not a student in any of Anand sir's batches, but I went there for the test series (which was open for all with a token registration fees). Since Anand sir and Super-30 was so famous, I along with my friend (who by the way also is a girl) went there to see how that turns up. Now, on the first day of the test-series we were asked to fill up our IIT-JEE roll number on the answer sheet as well. My friend filled it but I didn't. Later when the results came, it was announced that just like "last 3 years" this year too super-30 has managed to show 100% results. We both cleared JEE too. Then...!!! The shocking news came when my friend (who never went to study there) was called to meet the CM Nitish Kumar as a student of super-30. He also promised that everyone of super-30 JEE clearing students will get a laptop from him as an award. Since, apparently, she was the only girl candidate clearing IIT, she was called several times and at last she decided to go. Our actual maths teacher went furious after seeing her picture in the paper as super-30 student. What actually happened ??? We also had a friend who was actually in Super-30. He said that only 22 out of 30 students had cleared the exam. Rest, like my friend, were taken up randomly form his other batches and/or the test series (since her JEE roll number was with them they knew her result and could contact her easily because of other details like phone number). We also came to know that once super-30 did manage to get 100% results (only once..!!!) but it did not continue. It went like 28/30 or 25/30 but never 30/30. Since we already had the proof, it was not difficult to believe this fact. Another incident I have only heard this incident, so it may/may not be true. There was once a guy from St. Micheal School (Patna) who was invited by Anand sir to give a talk after he cleared IIT (some says he was bribed too..!!!). Anyways, on stage he fearlessly announced that he was never a student of him except for the test series and he also added " I don't know why I was called to give the talk...I don't belong here.." My views...!!! It may be because of the peer pressure to expand the business or something else I don't know, but somehow it resulted in his desperate need to show results. Anand sir is doing a great work for the community and under-privileged talented students but if we talk about the success rate of Super-30, I would say don't trust the stats and make your judgement. Its not 30/30 but it is certainly above 20 (plus other unnamed ones from the normal batches). P.S : She did not get that laptop.

Read the complete article, and have heard about these allegations before also. I don't have any contact with super-30 now, so won't be able to judge it's fake or hyped, but let me tell this story. Average build, shy, wheatish and had a confused look. He joined this year fresher batch, He was from Bihar, so being senior from same state interacted with him a bit and his story is something worth telling. He used to earn 2K/month kind of money by giving private tutions in his native (it was sasaram i think) and he was sole earning member is his family. His family had father, mother, himself and a younger brother. When asked about his father occupation he went mum. Then someone told him if you goto Patna and give tutions, you will earn more and so he came to Patna. Meanwhile he got to know about IIT-JEE while staying in Patna and people suggested him to try for that. He tried and got into Super-30, got selected and joined this college. He was very much thankful to Anand sir for support and guidance. Guess, what was his biggest problem ? How will his family manage expenses in his absence (his brother had started giving tutions by then, but wasn't sufficient) Fortunately, some good things govt. does is giving lots of scholarships and he got one. His mess fees got waived off and it was easy to get +2 students for coaching in city, given the IIT tag. Don't know where he is now, but his story shook me for few days. Now coming to question. I don't care he declares names of students before or after exam. I don't care he pays students to get ranks. Till there are few students coming out his coaching with such background ...he is success for me.

the success of super 30 is true but one fact to be noticed about it is that all the students come from very poor background and most of them are from reserved catagory.
Anand Rahul
I am from Super 30 and am writing this because I think being a student at Super30, I must protect its dignity. You can cross-check my background if you have any doubts on what's said below. I am from Super30 2k9 batch and have been an average student throughout. It was 2007 when I was in Xth and had absolutely no clue about even the 'IIT' word, let alone the various engineering colleges and types of entrance exams etc. On a close friends advice, I went to study Maths which I liked as a subject, to 'Hot Summer Cool Classes' â a 250 rs course for 45 days at Super30's coaching [Actual institute name is âRamanujan school of Mathematicsâ, AKA âSuper 30 coachingâ institute!]. I was impressed by Anand Kumar [we called him Anand Sir] teaching and had requested him for some fee rebate, as I could not have paid for the regular fees of 9000 per year. I just paid 6000 for 1 year PCM coaching. He asked me to attend few of the classes and based on my performance, I would be provided extension to attend more classes. I somehow survived that 1 year by passing through 30% marks in almost all of the class tests. Then towards the end of my 1 year of grant-based study, started the sale of Super30 forms, price 50 Rs. each. I arranged this much money and again luckily cleared the exams [Not too high score but just got in!], however no announcement for accommodation, etc was made initially. Then a 80-100 student batch was formed and after 2 or 3 week's coaching, weekly tests started. I was lucky to be in the list of students who scored good in those tests. I was offered a boarding in a flat along with a good mix of students[Secret of Super30's success is here!]. We 8 students shared a 3 BHK, food was free, rest everything was upon us, from cleaning floors, toilets to laundry, etc. Similarly, there were other groups set up by the coaching management in nearby colonies. Our group of 8 knew that each of us are in actual Super30, but no one else in our batch, just to avoid nuisance and distractions. We did not know how many students study in Super30 and where are all other students living who have been provided boarding, etc. Again the same reason. It was anyway not our business to inquire soo much. So, the 8 student group was like this: 1 student very sharp in maths, 1 very sharp in physics, 1 very sharp in chemistry and each were boarded in different rooms of the flat. Rest almost everyone was an average guy and distributed accordingly. The reasoning for this, [I discussed this later with Anand Sir], was that the flat should never be cluttered and should always be productive for learning and unblocking each other's queries. Anyway, the Super30 management applies these sort of weird combinations to form efficient study groups and this process was still evolving till then. They keep making changes to the group structure every year almost AFAIK. There is a healthy competition and people learn as well as admire each other a lot. In our year, Chemistry teacher was hired by the institute and did not visit the hostel. Teachers for Maths and Physics came to our hostel in case we needed. But that was like once in a month, mostly we used to clarify our doubts in the institute itself, among the other students. Huge number of tests were taken in just 8 months of Super30 course, almost ~150. management keeps a watch on the strong and weak points of students and guides them accordingly. Finally IIT JEE Results came, I was through the IIT JEE [AIR 7588, folks might think this is not so good, but it proved enough for me]. We were called at the institute on the result day. Some media interviews happened early in the day, and Super30 was covered by the whole bunch of National Media till afternoon. After all publicity was done, in evening, all thinkable Super30's âinterestsâ came to a logical end. But, Anand Sir came to the mic again and almost took all the responsibility of arranging money for our college study. We were told not to worry much about the money asked for registration, etc. And that was just the start of Super30's selfless helping! IIT JEE form = 1000 Rs., Given by Super30. Registration fees = 5000 Rs., I had no money to go to Guwahati and pay this much. Completely taken care of by Super 30. [Travel was paid by relatives though!] Education loan process = Super30 got us connected to some banks who gave us loans without much harassment and collateral security. First semester fees = Education Loan process was not that fast. Super30 asked banks to disburse money for 1st semester in advance. [I am not fully sure how this was done!]. I got money for 1st semester even before I got my education loan sanction letter. Study fees = Education loan took care of most of these. Also, just because I was from Super30, I could manage huge study grants by various NGO/other private firms so that I could complete my studies at IIT Patna Comp Science hassle free. Else a person of my JEE AIR would be never even considered for any form of scholarship let alone the grants. Seriously speaking, I could not have made it to any IIT [or just say any form of engineering degree] without Super30's help and guidance. Todayâs me = Itâs been two years for me working at Microsoft. I am weighing different growth paths in professional life, masters degree, promotions within Microsoft, better Job in US or within our country, etc. Least of the Super30âs impact, my family got unchained from the gruesome days my family faced while I was in college. My role = I have offered Super30 management for owning finances of one or two student who is struggling to arrange fees for their college, irrespective of getting it to IIT or not. Hopefully, Iâll get the privilege of helping people back, what I had gotten a few years back. A fact is that Super30, for good, has successfully changed so many lives and will keep changing for many others too. I sincerely hope people do not disregard Super30's achievements in bringing cheer for me and many like me. Even if there is some publicity of the teachers involved, can't we simply see the much-needed help and the good beneath that. I remember my father's words to one of the interviewers he spoke to, âSuper30 has appeared to us like Gods of the Poorâ. I think this sums up all I wanted to say. EDIT: Answers to some frequently asked questions in comments: 1: Success secret of S30? Answered here: 2: Is Super30 only for reserved population? Answer: Many students come from reserved [Atleast in my batch], but the management never has had any quota or any bias [AFAIK] to not take GEN in S30. Some of the '8', I mentioned above are "GEN" category and are already added in my FB. Not all 8 are added because we people did not know about Facebook then, we joined Orkut/FB later when exposed to such stuff in 1st year and I could not maintain a regular touch with all of them. :( 3: Isn't it just students alone who should be credited for their hard work? Answer: I don't think so. Guidance and a good coaching is very much required. Many school friends of mine did not get to any IIT or NIT which they easily deserved just because of the lack of guidance. 4: Where do Super30 people go in future? Answer: Many go to IIT, but I know some students who opted for NIT instead of a IIT, thinking of a better future in NIT rather a new IIT or maybe because of no seats offered. They get to one or the another MNC. Some have become IAS, researchers, etc. But the biggest change is the way it has brought several families above the so called "state of mind"! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Magazine has selected mathematician Anand Kumar's school - Super 30 - in the list of Best of Asia 2010. Super 30 received praise from United States President Barack Obama's special envoy Rashad Hussain, who termed it the âbestâ institute in the country. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newsweek_Magazine has taken note of the initiative of mathematician Anand Kumarâs Super 30 and included his school in the list of four most innovative schools in the world. Anand Kumar has been awarded the Maulana https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abul_Kalam_Azad Shiksha Puraskar, the highest award by the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_of_Bihar in November 2010. I guess these awards and honours prove that Super 30 is not fake or hyped up with it's count. It's so becuse after indepth research and findings about the coaching, only then it is so highly acknowledged and appreciated. Respected Anand Kumar is selflessly contributing to the country. So lets not question and be suspicious about his motives. It's high time for India to realize than we just have a handful of people who are magnanimous to do something like this. So be humble, respect it and follow it..!!

Precisely no, not at all.... No story about Super 30 IIT success rate is fake. The concept of super 30 started, when I was part of one batch. I remember 14 students approx had given the result in JEE and other people with 100% selection AIEEE. And this no. for JEE selection increased from this year to 30 people. And its not only 30 students but more than that, who clears JEE every year from his coaching. Many stories and facts covered by media, might not be correct some time (Addition of some masala), but this fact of selection from super 30 is absolutely true.

Neither I am from super 30 nor from Bihar but I can answer this question ,on basis from one of my friends (currently doing b.tech with me,not in IIT but in state government college again not in bihar)experience while he went in Mr. Anand's coaching which is advertise as SUPER 30: 1. After his 10, he went to the place where super 30 classes was supposed to conduct. 2. Officials there ,rather salesman of education greated him and told him the fake benifit of the coaching center. 3. He felt into the trap and joined that centre paying Rs.15000 in advance. 4. When he went in the class.he was surprised to see the number of student in his batch itself,it was 800-900 in single batch and there were many batch like this, maybe thousands of students fooled by ANAND SHARMA(no sir or Mr. as he don't deserve respect because of playing with future of students). 5. He sincerely attend 15-16 days there but what the seen of class is the teacher (who seems not at all experienced , just like passed class 12) keeps writing on whiteboard , half student not listening at all . 6.after a week test conducted from all the batches nearly 12k-14k student gave test in total and around 500 got selected(my friend wasn't in those 500) 7. Then series of test goes on and students keeps shortlisted. 8.Now coming to my friends batch ,it was horrible with students filled like ant, how can one teacher teach 800 at once. 9. My friend left the batch after around 15 days. Now comes twist he visited in office to take his 15 k fee back and ALAS!!!!! he met with 5-6 strong bodies 6feet high BOUNCERS. What he will do now is forget his 15k . And same happen with thousands of innocence student. Note:my friend was lucky having one of his relative as police inspector so he got his refund. But Where is anand sharma in all this the answer is nowhere, he doesn't give a dam about batches, visits only 1-2 days in coaching per 10days and leave mostly in Delhi. Even he doesn't teaches that shortlisted student of which he called super30 as he mearly visit the center so how can he teach?? (I came to know as four of the friend of my friend got selected in that batch of super 30 , it was batch of 31 student, but don't know how many similar super 30 batches was going on) AT RESULT DAY OUT OF THAT 4 FRIENDS sadly NO ONE MANAGED TO CLEAR JEE AND IN NEWSPAPER SUCESS RATE WAS 29/30.how was that possible, in there 31 students batch 8 got ranks (all were SC/ST ,not even OBC)(remember they were in 500 out of 12k-14k students) and the rest who were not got rank neither got there name in super 30 batch. What a cheating different students were there even who hasn't done coaching from him ,mearly 4 week test series. So all I can say is super 30 is an advertising strategy and please don't give that 15k advance , you will never take it back as all are not police's relatives. Super 30 May be true for few years of it's foundation but as now owners are rich , they just cash money . So SUPER 30 IS FAKE AS OF NOW ,its like a good advertising though for them. Note:the guy from Microsoft may be true considering he was of 2k9 batch but now super 30 is finished Also some answer in quora or varoius platform like Facebook or blogs may be paid by advertising agency promoting super 30,who knows(maybe that of Microsoft guy)

I m not a student of super 30 but i took maths classes fom anand sir at Ramanujam school of mathematics. I won't say that all the success stories of super 30 are completely hyped up but yes they aren't all true either. First of all, it is not a batch of 30 students only. There have always been more than 30 students in these batches. Secondly, the general batches which act as finance providers for the super 30 programme are not given adequate attention. There is over crowding of students in the general batches. Around 1000 students used to sit together in my batch. While super 30 gets all the lime light, students of general batches suffer.

I was a part of 'Super-30', 2008-09. Actually it was a batch of 150+ Very good Students selected through a two-round test conducted among 8000+ Students. As the IIT-JEE 2009 results were announced, the successful students(Whatever be the numbers, it always crosses 25/26 out of a pool of 150+ Very good students) were declared as Super-30 at his Residence with a number of Electronic Media. Now the details: Mathematics:Anand kumar himself teaches Mathematics and he is one of the best mathematics teachers. If I'm good at Mathematics, whole credit goes to My 'Mathematics teacher Anand Sir', who taught me in batch of 700 Students in 2007-2008 and I paid Rs.6000 and they don't give receipts, don't pay Taxes. Physics: At that time,Two ex-students of Anand kumar, Namely Amit and Pravin used to teach Physics, and they were really bad at that. Chemistry: There was a part time teacher of Chemistry who used to spoil our Chemistry, the worst chemistry teacher I've seen! Anand Kumar used to say " Iss baar Koi Super-30 nahin hai, Jo results honge, hum Itne bachon me se hi dikhayenge" And to talk about Accommodation, Fooding and all that, You have to request him to grant you such facilities on the basis of your family conditions. Queries will be addressed, and if my poor comprehensive skills make you think that it's just a story, do your own research if you have enough time. We believe in whatever Media sells!
