What can I expect when I do a computer science major?

What future can an average Computer Science graduate expect if he gets PhD at some top IIT?

  • Lets say, I completed B.Tech from a totally average university with average grades, manage to get M.Tech in a quite better (one of rising Tier-1 institutes), and now go on for PhD at IIT. What can I expect (career/job) after finishing PhD from here, esp if I don't want to get into academics or teaching?

  • Answer:

I disagree with Larry. I think the opportunities you get are better; at the least, it will get you above par to IITians with 2 years work experience. Thus you're sort of investing an extra 3 years as compared to an IIT Bombay CS graduate, with possibly a faster acceleration in the future job. [And you'll possibly be doing better than IITians in other departments]

This is just one man's opinion.  Computer Science degree in 1973.  Get into the workforce my man.  A PhD isn't needed to be great in the IT world. In fact the more you stay in school, the more technology changes as you eat cafeteria food. Get a job and dive in!
