How do I wire to Rockford subs?

Could i use 10 gauge rockford fosgate wireng kit to wire my 2400 watt amp to my two 12 inch pioneer subs?

  • the amp will be turned down since the subs are only 1000watts each, but will that 10gauge wire wwork?

  • Answer:

For speaker wire, 12 AWG is the biggest you'd ever need to go. For power, 10 AWG is way too small and will melt the insulation = fire.

yeah it would work if you like a fire in the long run

you could but the wire is really thin. I recommend 4 gauge instead. You'll get more power and the subs will be louder.

here's the problem: 2400 watts at 12 volts = 200 amps of power. 10 gauge wire is rated for 30 amps. Wire size will not limit amperage draw. What will happen is the demand of the amp will pull as much as can be through the wire, but the wire will over heat, melt, and potentially START A FIRE!!! Especially at that kind of offset. While the 10 gauge may be rated at 30 amps, it's actual melting point is probably 60 amps of continuous load. Now we're talking about the power supply to the amp from the battery and the ground to the chassis as far as 2400 watts is concerned. Now from the amp to the speakers you can use smaller wire rated for the wattage of the speaker. 1000 watts at 12 volts is something like 90 amps of power, so you could use 1 gauge to the speakers. But you need 00 for the power from the battery, and an appropriately rated in-line fuse. (That's "2-ought") You can buy these two different sized wires by the foot at home depot. THHN type wire will suffice. It will be much cheaper than buying a 200 amp car wiring kit.

it will work but I dont recommend it Unless u use like three runs of it.. just get 4 guage or bigger

It will work meaning that you will get some power but your equipment will not perform at its best unless you go with larger wire. I too recommend 4 guage or bigger (lower guage)
