What is the difference between 2-way and 3-way car speakers?

    Infinity Refrence speakers are the way to go for speakers, they are 2 way w/ silk tweeters, they sound great, and they are easy to find (any be$t buy). As far as sounding great outside the car, most people wont tell too big of a difference between crappy speakers and clean speakers from the outside because most of what people refer to as "clear", are the higher frequencies, which rarely escape the car because they are so directional and have a harder time escaping a car's interior.

3ways will provide high mid and lows, 2 ways will have high and low. go with 3ways it will give you a more full sound

There have been tests on 2 way or 3 way speaker component sets. There results are that 3 way speakers sets are no better than 2 way speaker sets. If your looking for 2-way coaxial speakers versus 3-way coaxial speakers, I would go with a midbass driver since you have the tweeter, all you need would be to buy a passive crossover. As for your subs I don't understand what your asking. It's nice that your box is ported. What do you mean as far as adjustments on settings?

if you really want clean sound, buy 6 1/2" woofers, and a good crossover, to go with your tweeters, or better yet, an active cross-over and separate amps

if you want really clear sound go with sony xplod 4 way speakers they come in 5.25 and 6.5 also 6 by 9 they are by far the clearest sounding speakers ive ever heard in a car they can also handle more bass ive only seen them at walmart and they run 40 to 50 for a pair depending on the size ive got these in my car best decision ive ever made

If you want to hear that nice clear music, get the 2way one, but if you want more bass, get the 3way! everything else is fine
