I've used Garman, Magellan & TomTom and there all about the same. But I like Garman the best because of the size.

I have installed, used, and heard alot of people complain about satellite navigation systems. The one that has never been mentioned in a complaint is the pioneer AVIC series navigation units. I have used garman and magellan, and heard that tom tom is about the same. The Pioneer Avic N3 or Z2 are not only navigation either, they replace your factory radio and will play am,fm,xm,sirius,24bit cd, mp3, DVD, with auxillary inputs and are ready for bluetooth, Ipod, backup camera, and voice command. Plus, the Avic Z2 has a 30 gig hard drive for your music library. The dashmount nav units won't list as many points of interest as pioneer's (gas stations, hotels, mechanics). and Pioneer will show the phone number of the place you are looking up, unlike the dashmount units. Plus pioneer avic units are either 6.5" or 7" touch screen, they reroute faster when you take a wrong turn, the map is easier to see, including arrows on the top of the screen that indicate what lanes will exit and what lanes go straight ( a necessity when driving through Atlanta), the voice guided navigation even says the street names. they are updateable, and very user friendly. They are very expensive though. If you buy a window mount naigation, definitely do it yourself, there is not much to it. If you buy something like the AVIC, you will have to have it professionally installed.

Get an XDA Orbit mobile phone from O2. I have one and it's amazing. It has satnav which is as good, no, better than some of the really expensive ones on the market, but at the same time you get a PDA and phone.
