What are some good 6x9 speakers with a good bass response?

Why do my aftermarket speakers have awful bass response?

  • I replaced all four of my car's 6-1/2" stock speakers with some Polk 6-1/2" coaxials. Now I have zero bass!! My old speakers sounded so much better. What gives?

    There is a possibility that you wired them backwards, that would explain alot. When you wire speakers backwards they might sound fine but they will have hardly any to no bass at all. When i changed out my front speakers they had less bass as well. Some things you could try are the EQ settings and fade settings as well.

That's one of the cons of aftermarket speakers. You see, most aftermarket car speaker manufacturers want you to buy a whole system for your car (head unit, speakers, subs, amps), so they purposely design their speakers to produce little to no bass response, and to not play as loud as the old factory speakers so you'll have to go out and buy a sub and amp to get the bass response and output you're after. Aftermarket speakers are pretty much just playing upper midrange and above. Sad, but true. The factory speakers are designed to produce the full range of the audio spectrum. They are also very efficient with power - they have to be, because factory stereos only put out about 10 watts of clean RMS power, if that. The downside to factory speakers is that they really can't handle too much power. My only advice to you is to look into getting a sub and amp to augment the aftermarket speakers.

6-1/2" coaxial speakers are a midrange speaker. they are not designed for bass. polk audio is a reputable company with some pretty serious high end speakers. your off to a great start on a new system if money is tight, or you just dont want to spend much, hit a walmart. sony explode products wil give you descent sound (and feel) at a good price
