Save yourself some money and use this little jewel... http://www.crutchfield.com/S-9oDEWuNVIo6/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=142FMMOD01 It's not wireless so there's no chance for interference. Not to be confused with an FM transmitter. It basically adds an AUX port to ANY radio. It feeds your audio signal from a headphone jack ( or RCA cables) by FM modulation, directly into the antenna input on your radio bypassing the antenna when on, allowing the radio to work as normal when off. This IS the answer. Totally versatile.

FM transmitter for $20 is by far the cheapest option. It transmits through an open FM frequency. The downside is that you can still get interference from radio stations near the frequency you choose, especially if you drive long distances and encounter different stations along the way. Here's an example, but there are many out there: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F8V3080-TuneCast-Mobile-Transmitter/dp/B0001F22PA/ref=pd_bbs_1/105-5984325-5747669?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1180424045&sr=1-1 Otherwise, you can get a near car stereo with "aux input". You can get them for under $100 these days. Here's a Sony model from crutchfield.com for $89.99: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-oIQQZZnvbD5/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=300&I=158GT210 They include everything you'd need to install it yourself, if you are comfortable doing such a thing. If you actually want to control your Ipod *through* your car stereo (so that you can hook up your Ipod and stash it away, and just use the car deck's display and controls to play songs off it), a car stereo with that capability will cost you a lot more -- probably a few hundred bucks.

Depending on where you live, you'll find them for around 100 bucks. But yeah, kenwood, or alpine are really good.

The car stereo will can be priced from one hundred on up. The expensive part is the wiring harness, faceplate and antenna. If you already have a stereo in your car, you can use a fm transmitter.
