How can I trace back my family in Russia?

I'm getting very respectable email and photos from Russia, but I still wonder. How can I trace them back?

  I watched Dateline last week and it showed some poor guy that got tricked by some hot looking lady from Russia that he met on line. He really thought they were going to get married with all the money they were supposedly making. This woman really took him for a ride. Turned out, it was a scam from a group of people that took him for every bit of his money. Not to mention he was heart-broken cause he really thought this lady was gonna marry him. He ended up helping the undercover cops and they couldn't find enough evidence to do anything. I'd be careful. In fact, I wouldn't even mess with it.
