What is a career in International Business like?

What is it like to buy a small software or services company (say, price range is less than $2M) to switch from a career path working for a company to owning a business?

  • I would imagine one would need to form a partnership with family and friends, assess markets, customers and potential business, raise capital, negotiate the terms and conditions and the price, and undergo a transition with the current management. I would like to understand the risks involved and love to hear from personal experiences.

  • Answer:

It is a rewarding experience if you want to put in the time and effort. You go from a less responsible position (working for someone else) to a lot more responsible position (where you are it for everything positive and negative) Things to think about is have some good people on your team and dont let go of them during your transition. The existing people in the company know how everything works. So you would need them until you get to know the business. Listen to them and then slowly make changes. You should do well. Good luck.
