What are the non-physical differences between humans and animals?

If humans are just animals then why so many differences?

  • Why do animals only kill when they need to eat? Humans kill all the time for stupid reasons. Humans rape and do plenty of things that animals dont. Has there ever been an animal ...show more

  • Answer:

"Why do animals only kill when they need to eat?" False. Animals kill over territory/mating rights all the time. Especially chimps. They even eat other chimps. And far as the animal serial killers go, see the Tsavo lions.

It's because humans developed intellect and with intellect comes fear of things we don't understand and because of this fear we destroy those things we don't understand in order to feel safe. And it's the same with animals, when a threat comes along, it's kill or be killed; therefore, along we might not like it, we are animals. And sure there are differences between animals and humans because of reasons science has surely explained in some way or another.

> "Has there ever been an animal that was a serial killer?" Ever had a cat repeatedly leave you dead songbirds on your front porch? There's your serial killer. Non-human animals are probably less capable of planning such actions ahead of time, and of not getting caught, but that's just because humans are more intelligent than other animals. Being better able to plan doesn't make us into non-animals any more than being better able to see makes eagles into non-animals, or being better able to dig makes moles into non-animals.

Animals kill for other reasons too. Cats kill mice and don't eat them if they aren't hungry. Some animals will kill intruders who enter their territory or threaten their young. Male lions kill lion cubs when they take over as the head of the pride, so the females will go into heat and they can get 'em knocked up.

"Why do animals only kill when they need to eat?" they do not. a pair of captive raised toger were introdued to a game park where they proceded to kill 27 antelope in a span of 3 days... You must have never seen an outdoor cat. They not only rape to mate but kill even when food is put down on a regular basis. Also we are more advanced. We are capable of having many more emotions than most animals therefore different results.

Okay, maybe humans kill more than other animals for no reason. And? We're still animals, even if we are different. Many animals have differences. Leafcutter ants are the only ants which cut leaves. Does this mean they're not ants? No!

The definition of all animals is that they all digest food internally.

OK, we have established that other animals sometimes kill when they don't need to eat, and sometimes rape. The big difference is that we are the only animal that does those things even though we know better. We are also the only animal that kills for revenge, the only animal that slaughters its own species and others en masse, and the only animal that kills itself in order to kill others. On the other hand, we are the only animal that feels compassion for and empathy with other species, the only animal that can choose not to compete with other species so that they won't be made extinct, and the only animal that will help other members of its own species that it has never even met. The reason for all these characteristics is the amazing organ we have inside our heads.

That is a very complicated question. And the answer will vary depending of who you talk to. An evolutionist will tell you that it's because humans developed their own intelligence, and we started out as apes. A creationist will tell you it's because humans were made in the image of God, and that's why they have their own intelligence, why they will be saved, and why we are capable of knowing right from wrong. It all depends on who you talk to and what or who you believe in. also...animals do kill for reasons other than to eat. they kill over territory, dominance, mating, etc. For example, the dominant female prariedog is the only one allowed to mate and reproduce, if another female has a litter, the dominant female will kill the litter.
