You could try out loads of online courses that are available. www.learn-hindi-online.com/â http://www.rocketlanguages.com/hindi/ And there are many more! If you'd prefer certified courses, Try the Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha. They provide certification for their examinations and there are loads of coaching centers in Chennai. Check this out. http://www.dbhpsabha.org/ On the downside to this, most of the candidates are pretty young (4th grade to 10th) and if you can figure out a way to adjust, that's Awesome!. Also do lots of things like watching Hindi movies, first with subtitles and later without them. Try replying to your friends in Hindi. Hope this helps. Happy learning!! :)

Hindi Serials, Hindi Movie, Hindi News . Shift your room/house to Sowcarpet or Vepery. Get friendly with a Paanwala or Panipooriwala. Or better get a Hindi Speaking girl friend

The question you have put out doesn't come as a surprise ! The fact that people in Chennai prefer to speak in tamil which is what the city is known for and there is nothing wrong in it ! You can't go to Delhi and expect them to speak tamil or Kannada ! Just like any other state in India ! Chennai too has a good amount of North Indian population who are populated through out the different areas of the city especially found in areas like vepery, choolai, kondithope, sowcarpet, kilapauk etc. You move around these areas you will hear hindi often ! Coming to the part about learning hindi ! It's just like any other language which you learn either because you need to or you like that language (maybe cuz you have people speaking that language around you). One good practice is to converse in the language to ensure fluency and correct usage of words. Of course online you have lots of materials available including YouTube videos and theoretical lessons ! But I would recommend you to vocally speak it out to learn it better ! Hope this helps! Cheers !

I personally believe that watching Hindi movies or comedy shows etc will help better. Learning academically is okay but it can be boring and no one on the streets necessarily speaks like that (same goes for any language). No one speaks chaste or academic Tamil on the streets. Chennai Tamil everyone knows how it is :D. Moreover the kind of hindi spoken in Mumbai is different than the one in Delhi and much different in hyderabad. Hence, I would advise watching movies. Quick, easy, best way to learn what is really spoken in the streets. Learn Bollywood Hindi or Mumbai Hindi, that should suffice. More than enough.

Chennai only teaches you Tamil and also.. To eat all varieties of Dosa :) P.S. Learn Hindi through some North Indian friends. Also don't be shocked if they talk back in Tamil to you :D

After trying all the above The only way you could Clearly learn fluent hindi is I have said below :Learning from North indian friends or Shifting yourself to sowcarpet wont help you unless or until you know some basic hindi .Self learning through online materials/Books may end up in wrong pronunciation and wrong formation of sentences like how hindi marvaadis âSeattuâ speak tamil.Chennai is a metropolitan City. You can find anything Here. So better go to language trainer in chennai , which will be worth for money and time,Which i too did . I got an excellent Hindi tutor in chennai when i was watching in youtube how to learn hindi so i have Posted the link of the video which i think might help you.
