How does yahoo e-mail account get infected by virus?

I am getting an email from yahoo on my yahoo mail account saying that my account is infected by a virus?

  • The message is askig me to update my account. How do I know whether or not that message is valid.

    Yahoo does not as its users to update their info. That is most likely a phishing scam. Someone is looking to trick you into giving them your account details.

This sounds like a phishing email designed to collect your account information.
