Answer:
I had a similar problem in December and changed the ports etc to the 995 SSL and 465 SSL and all was fine until 3rd January 2014 when it reported POP3 connection failed failed but SMPT was working still. I have now found that I had to change the POP and SMTP server addresses from .co.uk to .com to get them to work again. Working again but not sure why this is having to change ?

Thanks all for the posts, v. helpful. I had to mix and match to get settings that worked: From liponlegs23: Incoming Server (POP3) – 995 and I checked ‘This Server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)’ box (it was previously 110 with the (SSL) connection box unchecked) From Gi75Gi: I did exactly as you did, but for the Outgoing Server (SMTP) – I changed 25 to 587 and I checked the requires 'Auto' box.

Hi liponlegs23, I did exactly as you did, but for the Outgoing Server (SMTP) – I changed 25 to 587 and I checked the requires 'Auto' box. Thanks for the updated post. It helped me out.....

This helped me. I had different server settings, and they worked before the yahoo servers crapped out, and then they did not work any more. I changed my servers (to 995 and , and I also changed to use TLS on STMP, and that did the trick. It is a bit disappointing that yahoo did not proactively contact users with an email letting us know about the server blowout and possible consequences (I could still get email via the web). I am sure the execs at yahoo had a lot of discussions about how to message it to to public, but it makes me feel like an unsatisfied customer.
