Why do Americans say Happy Holidays, not Happy Christmas?

Yeah, I respect peoples beliefs even though I don't agree with them.

what?

I always say Merry Christmas as that's what I'm celebrating. If people celebrate a different religion, I'm more than happy to receive a greeting such as 'Happy Hanukkah' or whatever it is, because that's their religion and that's what they're celebrating. Happy Holidays just sounds too generic to me, it doesn't celebrate what the actual occasion is. Besides, many people celebrate Christmas without any actual religious traditions - it's all about family and celebrating togetherness in my book, not necessarily about religion (even if that was the tradition that started it all).

all of this political correctness is stupid. the feeling is there, even if you aren't Christian. like, if when someone sneezes, i say bless you. it's just considered natural and good manners. same with Merry Christmas! if people get offended over that, then that's their problem. i wouldn't get offended if someone said Happy Hannukah (even tho im not jewish).

It's a bunch of nonsense. What else can I say--it's so stupid.

There are other holidays BESIDES Christmas. Not everyone is a Christian.
