Melbourne is definitely cheaper, and also New York according to my geography teacher is cheaper too than Sydney, but Sydney is definitely worth the money

Cost of living is just one of many areas where Melbourne kicks Sydney's ***

I'd say they're very similar in general. You can live cheaply (relatively) in either city. Base your decision on other factors, such as your love of art, or where you can get a job, or where you can study the subjects of your choice.

Both are expensive toilets with terrible infrastructure and crime. I advise you try Brisbane. The best in Australia.

The cost of living of both are through the roof, the next federal election is coming up, as soon as we get rid of Madam Gillard, things will be back to normal again,"let them eat cake", yes Madam, we will eat cake once you are gone, same as the french did, when they got rid of the french royalty, who did the exact same thing.

Melbourne is much cheaper than Sydney. However, there are other places in NSW to move to as well.

Buying and renting is generally more expensive in Sydney than Melbourne, but when it comes to bills, food etc, it's pretty much the same. You could just pick an area in either city where buying and/or renting is cheaper, which is usually the outer suburbs.

Lizzie, you might think I am sitting on the fence with this answer, I lived in Sydney, and yes it was expensive, but I also went to Melbourne a number of times, and relatively speaking, I found them to be pretty much similar. When you say Sydney is cheaper moving wise, in what respect?
