Answer:
Another thing you need to do is apply for a tax file number. The careers officer/vocational guidance office at your school can help you with this, otherwise http://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/content.aspx?doc=/content/4716.htm , and you will most likely also need a bank account, so get these things lined up in advance.

Other people have told you most of the usual places, but I would add to their information that K Mart are particularly good at looking after young employees. They are less exploitive and take more responsibility for your well being than some of the other employers named below. I know a young person who currently works for K Mart, and they are really on the ball at making sure you know your rights, have done all your paperwork correctly etc.

Actually, a lot of places are more likely to hire you because they don't have to pay you as much. Firstly you need a tax file number, a bank account, and know all the details for forms and such. Like others have said, you have all the places like target, bigW, safeway, coles, IGA, kmart, McDonald's, kfc, hungry jacks.. most fast food places in general Try retail stores (supre, sportsgirl, colette, cotton on etc) or even places like chemist warehouse and priceline. A lot of cafe's hire young too for waitressing. Fruit markets, bakeries, franchises (boost juice).. Be ready to work after school and most weekends.
