What is the illuminati, and can anyone explain this conspiracy to me?

It's a stupid conspiracy theory, designed to confuse people. A propagandist tool. Study the Third Communist International instead. They're real.

The Illuminati is an historical organisation founded in Bavaria in 1776. They were a group of free-thinkers, philosophers, etc. that formed as an offshoot of the Enlightenment. They [including all secret societies] were banned by Karl Theodor, the ruler of Bavaria, in 1784. Since that time, they have often been blamed for controlling world affairs and were even accused of instigating the French Revolution, which their member vehemently denied. In modern times they are often referred to as the shadowy "power behind the throne", allegedly controlling world affairs through present day governments and corporations. This common theme in conspiracy theories about a New World Order is that a powerful and secretive elite with a globalist agenda is conspiring to eventually rule the world through an autonomous world government, which would replace sovereign nation-states and put an end to international power struggles. Significant occurrences in politics and finance are speculated to be orchestrated by an extremely influential cabal operating through many front organizations. Numerous historical and current events, including wars, global market changes, uprisings, etc. are seen as steps in an on-going plot to achieve world domination through secret gatherings and decision-making processes. The name Illuminati has become popular in fiction [tv, movies and books] to describe the above-mentioned new world order, as the organisation that is plotting this NWO. The Illuminati is a satanic organization that heads the Free Masons. They control everything, stock markets, finances, certain religions, wars etc. However, the Free Masons claim that the Illuminati has 'infiltrated' them, but it's obviously a cover up. They call themselves 'Pagan', but if you take a close look at their beliefs and rituals...it is exactly like satanism. They will never admit it though, because they don't talk about satan, but baphomet or lucifer. When you join the Free Masons, you get a 'degree' (level) and only when you reach the 33 degree, you realize that you are in actual fact in the 'Lucifarian Church'. They believe that they are the protectors of Jesus' descendants...everybody knows that Jesus did NOT have any sexual relations...not even to talk about kids! Illuminati means, the 'enlightened' ones. The Illumanati are a shadowy organisation that have behind the throne power. They worship Satan but do not admit it. Lady Gaga is , apparently, a Illumanati puppet.
