You may want to read a book called Cruise Confidential by Brian David Burns. It is all about working on a cruise ship and is highly recommended.

you really need to talk to the crew. it will depend on the job mostly. entertainers tend to be well treated, staff eg ships personnel range form good to indifferent to bad depending on role eg engineer, catering manager , cleaner. it isn't good pay for bottom of rung folk and long hours etc are not suited to all. many have to do more than one job on board. do look for site that can offer a better insight to this field and a chat with a half dozen or so ships workers wil give you inside information you need. eg boating forums ?
