Has anyone worked on a cruise ship?

Has anyone ever worked on a cruise ship before?

  • I'm trying to get a job on a cruise ship, and they told us that our 'closet' will be about the size of a locker. True? Any other tips/info would be helpful. Thanks!

  • Answer:

yes, its true. an entry level position requies you to share a cabin, even if its a staff position. your closet will be the size of a locker. the cabins are very small... and the newer the ship, the smaller it gets... thats why i prefer older ships. i worked for Carnival and Costa (its sister company).... they suck. Ive worked for the shop concessions, so we had the shops on some 50 ships or so, which is nice cause you get to work on diferent cruise lines and surprisingly... the best to work and not necessarily the best to cruise... a staff position always have more perks... that include reception, any cruise staff, shops, casinos, spas, kid host, photo dept... crew positions are inhumane and are only taken by people from countries where the dollar is still higly valued and there are not many job ops. I worked on a ship in which the who bar, restaurant and deck depts were philipinos, the housekeeping was compleatly indonesia... im talking 100% of the crewmembers were either philipino or indonesian... it was very friendly and the service was pretty good. the staff was mostly british with some south african, romanian, croatian... and me. if you got more questions email me

I was on 2 carnival cruises this spring and the ONLY American working on the ship was the Golf instructor. A few Canadians and everyone else was from Asia, South America and Europe. I dont know if Carnival hires many Americans. Just a Observation.

I have had friends that worked on them before but all I can tell you is they liked it so much they did it for years.

think about it like this, minus the work you are constantly on a cruise for free!

Yes, I would imagine the closet is that small. The crew sleeping quarters are probably really small too. You work hard 7 days a week and sign a contract to work six to nine months at a time. but then again you would get to see some of the world which is great cruiseshipjobs.com
