  • Answer:

Most of the people working on a cruise ship don't get days off, they get hours off. They usually come from countries with very low standards of living, so they work more hours per week than most Americans are willing to work, for pay most Americans aren't willing to work for. IF you have a skill, like massage therapy, or something like that, you can do contracts in which case it isn't as bad, but it isn't consistent work. Even the people who perform in shows are expected to do other things, like call bingo, give dance lessons, etc. Poor people in the us often have a higher standard of living than what is experienced in the home countries of many ships' crew. That's why they are willing to work like the do for what they make.

no such thing as a 'decent wage' to the vast majority of cruise line crew members. only officers make 'a decent wage' and those are NOT entry level, you need to work your way up from within. you must be 21 with at least 2 years experience in the job you wish to be hired in, preferably in 5 star restaurants and hotels.

The question is somehow not quite right. It should be- which job do I qualify for. A good paying job is for example Master of the ship - but you have more than just a little bit of school in front of you. And the travelling is rather limited with a job where you make a ton of money. I suggest you do research on working onboard a cruise ship, see what positions there are, what you qualify for and then go from there. Or if you want to know what you need to do to get a good paying job, you need to look at what is involved in becoming for example Master, Hotel Mananger, Cruise Director, Maitre D, Chef etc. I recommend the below sites: http://www.cruiselinesjobs.com/ - for a lot of info on life onboard a cruise ship http://www.cruisejobhelp.com/ - for a professional evaluation of your CV, work experience and qualifications, lots of tips and info and your chances of applying for a job in the cruise industry. http://www.allcruisejobs.com/ - for the latest open positions onboard cruise ships. https://www.facebook.com/cruiselinesjobs?fref=ts - Cruiselinesjobs on Facebook

You're out of luck. The pay on cruise ships is terrible, the hours are long and living conditions are crowded. If you're a US citizen, you won't be hired unless you're a singer or dancer. One exception is the Pride, which sails only in Hawaii and has an all-US staff, which accounts for its reputation for poor service.

How about photo staff? You don't need to go to school for that, a demonstration of knowledge will suffice. If you show talent, you may progress to the position of Photo Manager quite fast.
