    If he's cruising it'll cost a lot, but if he's just flying there and vacationing, he'll have service. We have Verizon and when we were there we had service, made a couple phone calls a day and didn't have an outrageous bill when we got home. Just tell don't talk too much because it will add up quickly!

If he's going by cruise, he should ask the cruise operator. They often provide cell coverage at a ridiculously inflated price. If he's going to be on land, then he should contact his cell phone provider before he even turns on his phone so that he knows and understands what the charges will be. I was away for 11 days and came home to a $1600 phone bill. Don't wait to find out the hard way.

Depends on the coverage and cell carrier he has...best bet is to use a local internet/phone cafe...they are dirt cheap and he can ask as he gets of the ship for directions to one. I used them in Mexico on my last cruise and it cost me about $1.00 to call home.

Yes, there is cell service in port. There is usually cell service on board ship too, but there are nasty roaming charges. Most people either arrange with their cell provider prior to their cruise to include certain destinations during the week they are on Holiday. The other less expensive option many people use is to purchase a prepaid calling card in port and use a public phone.

get a satilite phone. obv. in hotel areas there would be with/witout satelite phone like with a normal phone dont worry he'll text you ;)
