There are lots of jobs on board that hire americans and pay decent wages. I worked on board for 3 years and made OK money considering I paid no bills and traveled for free. Go to every cruise lines website and click links for employment. From there you find out who and where to send resumes. The whole process can take up to 6 month before you actually walk on board, so be patient. Here are a few well paying and american hiring positions: Cruise director, cruise staff, youth counselor, gift shop, spa attendant, masseuse, navigational officer, safety officer, environmental officer, hotel director, assistant hotel director, event manager, manager of on board media, sound tech, lighting tech, theater tech, broadcast tech, dancer, guest entertainer, musician, front desk, casino dealer or manager, finance/accounting, payroll, personnel, crew purser, bar manager, art auctioneer, shore excursions sales, shorex manager, and the list goes on. You will get off in various ports and you will see the world, or as much of it as the ships take you to. It is a lot of fun and you can expect to party a lot. If someone has never worked on board a cruise ship, then don't let them tell you about what its like to work on board. Its a very addictive lifestyle that attracts a really unique group of people. I partied in Europe, the caribbean, Alaska and more for 3 years and loved it. And for the record, international crew make good money, even by some US standards. Hate to say it, but I have even seen a few of the "less important" crew in carry a photo of relatives kids pretending they're theirs to show guests so they would get bigger tips. Sorry folks, even in the developing world, business is business and we are suckers. Conclusion: Do it. It rocks.

www.workonship.co.uk to work as Youth Staff you need Min 2 years childcare experience nursery/youth group, but it worth having a look as its something to aim for, depending what ur doing in college/uni/school u may be able to get round that for example if uve been helping out at a youth centre they may be able to count that as experience! I'm in the process of gettinga job as a guest service officer through that website, so far they have been very helpfull and informative, if nothing else email them and ask them some questions [email protected]

Google the names of the Cruise Lines which appeal to you and open up their web page. There should be some with Sits Vacant. Or write directly to the cruise line and ask for an application form.

You can apply directly to the cruise lines, or through a number of employment agencies that supply manpower to cruise ships. See: http://allthingscruise.com/work-on-a-cruise-ship/ for links to a variety of options. Good luck!

Hi Summer, try this webpage: http://allthingscruise.com/work-on-a-cruise-ship/ - it has info on cruiseline employment sites, hiring agencies and what to expect if you do work on a ship. Good luck!

I have been on several cruises and found that most of the ships staff is not american, I do not think that most americans would work as hard as crew does , little time off and lets face it some cruisers are AWFUL and I do not think pay is great alot of them work to send money home to help out family in countries that pay is much less then in USA

Probably only 1% of the crew who works on the cruislines are American. It is far from a fun job. You work 7 days a week with hardly any downtime. And the pay is probably close to minimum wage or less. The people who deal with the kids you probably don't even get off at the ports.
