What do you think about United Airlines new baggage policy?
-
United Airlines has updated their Baggage policy so that those who are flying on the "non-refundable" tickets will now have to pay $25 for a second piece of luggage checked. ...show more

Answer:
I think it's part of the general trend toward deceptive pricing in just about everything. Advertise a low price and then nickel and dime the customer to death with hidden fees. Unfortunately once United does it, the other airlines will be pretty much forced to follow suit to remain price competitive.

Simple, I changed my preference to airlines that DONT tack on surcharges. I don't fly naked either. I have found AeroMexico to be 110% better than all others. They have No bull policies and no gimicks. Top notch service too!

What we think doesnt matter......im more worried about the fact that is going to change from "United's" policy to the "Majority of U.S Airlines" policys. Word on the clouds is that others are soon to follow suit. I dont know whats more ridiculous.....United charging $25 to make up for the extra lbs in fuel needed to be burned for more weight or American Airlnes advising pax to lower window shades so that the plane stays cool and burns less fuel.

It's not necessarily United's fault that they have to charge you for extras. Jet fuel is very, very expensive nowadays, therefore forcing airlines to insert hidden fees into a traveler's flight. Although I do believe that $100 is a bit outrageous, I'm sure the passenger with only one bag is happy that they didn't add this cost to their ticket.

I think it is interesting how everyone is so irritated with this new policy. First of all, how many bags do you typically check when traveling? (think about it) Secondly, pack a big bag, check it, and then carry on another smaller bag/tote. As far as adjusting ticket prices to off-set fuel prices...that is absurd. Air fares are cheaper now than ever!
